Great weather and our first big climb. Sassafras Mountain was not as bad as we had thought it was going to be. The trail was steep but quite smooth, which made it easier. Not too many steps, rocks or roots.
We had a couple of creek crossings, little ups and little downs but a nice short day over all.
Gooch Gap Shelter was full and there were many camp sites around. It was well set out with level, sectioned off sites, so you got your own space and semi privacy.
